Wellness
The Child Nutrition Department is part of the School Health Advisory Council(SHAC). We provide healthy and nutritious meals for the students of LGISD. We encourage healthy meals and smarter snacks at school and at home. Activities that we organize at school for the students include:
1. Fuel Up to Play 60
2. The Organwise Guys with the help of Texas AgrilLife Extension Service
3. K-12 Fun Run
Fuel Up To Play 60- This program was put together by the NFL and the National Dairy Council, the purpose of Fuel Up to Play 60 is to provide healthy foods and snacks and encourage children to eat them. The other part of the program is to have at least an hour of physical activity every day.
The Organwise Guys - An entertaining, informative program that makes teaching children about good health fun and interesting. The OrganWise Guys uses characters to personify the major organs of the body and to bring their messages- low fat, high-fiber, low sodium, eat fresh fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water and exercise to life by emphasizing the importance of incorporating healthy habits into their daily living.
